With so many different characteristics, interests, and challenges among people in the same family, someone might ask: Why was I born into my family?

The Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit1 does not believe in chance and it invites you to look at family ties from a new perspective, taking into account not only physical or biological relations, but also spiritual relations, those that bind our souls to those of our own family.

For the Religion of Brotherly Love, the family is formed not only through a contract or during pregnancy. It is formed long before this: it begins in the Spirit.

The spiritual origin of the family

Despite belonging to many other social groups, the family transcends our ordinary interests through the spiritual goals we have in common. A football team, for example, brings together players with many skills and differences on the field, all with the aim of winning.

And even if they are from different backgrounds, they come together as a team with common interests. The process with a family is no different, just bigger.

They are individuals with skills and mistakes, and each one chooses to be born into a specific family nucleus, with chosen members, so that together they can achieve their common spiritual goals—these goals are also established by us even before we are born, reincarnated, given that death does not exist and we are eternal spirits.

According to what the Religion of the Third Millennium teaches us, God grants us the opportunity to spiritually set an agenda of commitments and situations which we will go through in an earthly existence to learn and redeem issues that were poorly resolved in previous lives.

What Is Reincarnation and Why Is It Necessary?

Peace in the family

There is an opportunity for renewal in which the love and support among the family makes it possible for each member to have strength and, at the same time, to serve as a foundation for others to overcome their daily challenges.

It is like the good guidance that those responsible for children and adolescents should give them, a lesson taken from good coexistence with people who have different opinions from our own, and the support for treating an illness, for instance.

For this reason the President-Preacher of the Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit, José de Paiva Netto, asserts,

“It is within the family that the Human Being’s most tender and sublime feelings flourish.”

“I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”

Nevertheless, the achievement of a more harmonious home is often not an easy task. It demands from us patience, humility, resignation, and courage to believe in and fight for solutions, even in circumstances that seem impossible to solve.

Therefore, Jesus, the Divine Friend of Humanity, when answering how many times we should forgive those that let us down, given that in the family we make mistakes and succeed, individually and collectively, challenged us in the following manner:

“I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (The Gospel of Christ, according to Matthew 18:22)

By expanding our capacity of understanding and compassion, Jesus invites us to go beyond numbers and to allow ourselves to learn from our own faults and failures.

Being a Divine creation, the family is, therefore, a valuable opportunity for us to understand God’s protection for all of us, as stated by Dr. Bezerra de Menezes, spirit and activist in the World Revolution of the Spirits of Light, in the message União das Famílias: o Segredo do Sucesso (Union of Families: the Secret of Success), psychographed by the Legionnaire medium Chico Periotto, in items 6 and 8, in the magazine Jesus está Chegando! [Jesus is Arriving!], issue 104:

“6 ― Families are blessed by God, as they constitute the basis of health, of progress, and of Peace, always ready to hear the sentiments of the Creator. In this manner they revive moments of long ago, whose happiness occurred, survived, was reborn, and flourished throughout the centuries.

8 ― Strong spirits, together, cause great events. The protection of God overcomes everything.”
