With social distance measures, given the Covid-19 pandemic, it has risen the consumption of alcoholic drinks at home. In the UK, occurrences of domestic abuse increased by 50% on quarantine. During one month of social distance, the country registered 16 cases of femicide, a higher number in over a decade. In Russia nonprofit organizations claim that the cases of domestic violence jumped from 6 thousand on March to over 13 thousand on April, while in Spain the total cases of abuses indoors rose 30% compared to the same period in the year before.*

Always face problems; never run away from them

Specialists affirm that the reasons for this rise come from the changes and uncertainty occasioned by the coronavirus. If people used to drink to escape from their negative reality, imagine this moment of global challenges that many people lost their job, had their income compromised, and/or are experiencing disagreements at home.

A direct consequence of the rise of alcohol consumption on quarantine is the increase in cases of domestic violence. Although women’s denouncement have decreased, because of the restrictions related to the pandemic, the Brazilian Forum of Public Security in Sao Paulo states that the number of femicides increased 46%, compared with the month of March 2020 and March 2019.

WHO recommendations during the quarantine

In April 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) alerted to the risks of consuming alcohol when the Organization published a document entitled “Alcohol and Covid-19: what you need to know”*, which governments recommend limiting selling the drug during quarantine and requests that regulations that already exist, like minimal age and publicity prohibition, be strengthened. This document also denies the dangerous myth that high alcohol levels in drinks can kill the new coronavirus. Quite the opposite, studies indicate that the ingestion of alcohol can decrease immunity, facilitating the contamination by Covid-19, not to mention the possibility of establishing an alcohol dependence when drinking becomes recurring.

Another aspect to be considered is the antisocial behavior generated by the addiction. The WHO explains that domestic assault, car accidents, and many homicides have alcohol drink as a decisive factor.

The list of losses provoked by alcohol still includes a higher risk to develop several organic pathologies, diseases of all kinds, like cirrhosis and many types of cancer, such as the esophagus, liver, and pancreas.

The consumption of light and moderate levels is also dangerous

The number 132 of the Portuguese issue JESUS IS ARRIVING! Magazine, September 2018, brought important research published in the scientific magazine THE LANCET, August 2018, which reveals: “Alcohol use is a leading risk factor for death and disability, but its overall association with health remains complex given the possible protective effects of moderate alcohol consumption on some conditions.

According to the study, people between 15 and 95 years old that drink one glass of alcohol every day, for one year, increase 0,5% the risk of suffering one of 23 problems related to this kind of consumption. Among them, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, cirrhosis, tuberculosis, and even suicidal thoughts.

Recent Japanese research published by the Cancer* magazine, the American Association of Cancer, in December of 2019, highlighted that even the light to moderate level consumption of alcohol can be associated with higher risks to develop malign tumors. In patients that drank every day a normal drink for 10 years, the chances of having cancer got to 5% even controlling comorbidities related to this habit, like smoking, high pressure, obesity, and diabetes.

A tool borrowed from God to our evolution

The Religion of the Third Millennium always clarifies the impact of human conduct, especially in our Immortal Spirit. From his universalist vision, Dr. Bezerra de Menezes (1831-1900) (Spirit) talks about the eternity of Life and how our attitudes and choices through earth’s existence are determinate to build our future, here and in the Spiritual World. About this reality, brother Bezerra alerts us in a message channeled by the medium Chico Periotto:

“Don’t let human vices affect your Spirits or your families, especially those vices that are widely publicized in the media—from a simple, apparently harmless, cigarette to drugs and alcoholic drinks. Shield, shield your Souls. The body, the physical vessel that all of us have received in this present incarnation, is an instrument borrowed from God.
